In the time of Ivan the Terrible, the housekeeper Justin Nedyurev lived. His wife's name was Stefanida, and she was from Murom. They spent their days “in all faith and purity” and were rich. They had a daughter, Ulyaniya.
Uliania was six years old when her mother died. The Murom grandmother took the girl to her, and after the death of her grandmother - aunt Natalia. Ulyaniya was gentle and silent, avoided games and laughter. Aunt scolded her, and aunt's daughter laughed at her. Ulyaniya diligently engaged in needlework, sewed for the poor, orphans and widows. But she never went to church: there was no church in that area.
When Ulyaniya was sixteen years old, she was married to the virtuous and rich husband of George Osorin. The priest Potapius from the village of her husband taught Uliani the law of God. The father-in-law and the mother-in-law instructed the daughter-in-law to run the entire household. She obeyed them in everything. Ulyaniya surprised everyone with her mind, she prayed a lot.
The husband of Ulyaniya often left for royal service in Astrakhan for a year, two or three. And the wife, meanwhile, spent all nights in prayer and needlework. She graciously and meekly treated the servants.
One night, when Ulyaniya got up for prayer, demons sent fear to her. Ulyaniya fell asleep. In a dream, she again saw demons, and then Saint Nicola, who was dispersing them, addressed him with words of encouragement. Waking up, she in reality saw Nicola leaving.
Famine began in Russia. Ulyaniya took food from her father-in-law - supposedly for herself - and distributed it to the poor. The father-in-law and mother-in-law were surprised that Ulyaniya began to eat more and more often. She replied that, having given birth to children, she was exhausted and could not at all get enough. The father-in-law and mother-in-law gladly sent her food. She handed out everything hungry.
Soon a great pestilence began. Ulyaniya secretly from her father-in-law and mother-in-law looked after the sick. The father-in-law and mother-in-law died in old age, being monks. Ulyaniya buried them and distributed a lot of wealth to the commemoration of their souls.
For many years, Ulyaniya lived with her husband, bore him sons and daughters. The eldest son was killed by a servant, another son died in the service.
Ulyaniya asked her husband to let her go to the monastery. He did not let go, but the couple decided to stop carnal communication. Ulyaniya indulged in the exploits of prayer and mercy. When Ulania’s husband died, she buried him and honored him with magpies and alms. She went to church every day, dispensed with warm clothes in winter and laid sharp shards in her boots. One day, severe frosts occurred, and Ulyaniya did not go to church for several days. The priest, however, heard a voice from the Mother of God that commanded Ulyaniya to say that she would come to church prayer. A priest; told Uliania about this incident, and from that time she began to show even greater zeal for the church.
Once Ulyaniya entered the prayer room. The room was full of demons. Saint Nicholas, appearing, dispersed the demons, and blessed Ulyaniya. But the last demon threatened Ulyaniya that in old age she would die of hunger. Ulyaniya drove the demon off with a sign of the cross. She entered the children with a changed face, but did not tell them anything. She spoke about this later and did not order anyone to pass it on.
During the time of Tsar Boris there was a great famine in Russia. In the house of Ulyaniya, cattle were starving to death. But she begged the children and the servants not to touch the stranger. Ulyaniya sold all her property to feed the servants.
At that time, Ulyaniya moved to the village of Vochnevo. There was no church nearby, and Ulyaniya prayed at home. She went to extreme poverty and let all the servants go free so that they would not starve. Many servants did not leave, but decided to endure with her. And the others are gone. Ulyaniya ordered the rest to bake bread from quinoa and tree bark, and she ate this bread with her children. At the same time, many beggars came to her, and she served everyone their bread. Everyone was surprised that the bread was very sweet, and did not understand that it was sweet with the Ulyanin prayer. Ulyaniya lived in such poverty for two years, did not grieve and was not embarrassed.
When her death approached and she fell ill, she constantly prayed to God. On January 2, at dawn, Ulyaniya called her spiritual father and partook of the Holy Mysteries. Then she, having called children and servants, taught them to virtues. On the same day, Ulyaniya died. She was buried near her husband, in the village of Lazarev, on the Murom land.
A church was erected over the coffin of Ulyaniya in the name of the Archangel Michael. When the son of Ulyanii, George, died, they began to dig a grave next to him and found the intact coffin of his mother. He was full of fragrant peace. The children of Uliania filled the vessel with peace and took it to church. Many people have been smeared with this world and healed.
