: A village by the sea. The young officer met a beautiful girl and found out that she was from a gang of smugglers. The officer intended to expose the gang, but nearly died, and the girl left the village forever.
In the original, the narration is conducted on behalf of Pechorin in the form of entries in his diary.
Being on a trip for official needs, Pechorin stopped in Taman.
Grigory Pechorin - a young officer, exiled to serve in the Caucasus, smart, educated, with a contradictory character, disappointed in life, looking for thrills
He had to settle in a house on the shore, in which he was "very unclean." A deaf old woman and a blind boy lived in a gloomy house.
At night, Pechorin noticed that the blind man went to the seashore and, driven by curiosity, decided to follow him.
On the shore he saw a stranger girl - together with the boy she was waiting for someone from the sea. After some time, a boat moored to the shore, and the man in it launched the load onto the shore, and the boy and girl helped him. The next morning, seeing the girl again, Pechorin met her and asked about the night incident. But the strange girl, laughing and speaking in riddles, never answered him. Then Pechorin threatened to tell the authorities about his guess about the smuggling of goods, which he later regretted: these words almost cost him his life.
Toward night, the girl called Pechorin on a date by the sea. This aroused his fear, but he went, and together they sailed on a boat to the sea.
And her cheek pressed against mine, and I felt her fiery breath on my face.
Suddenly, the girl rushed to Pechorin and tried to push him into the water, but he managed to stay in the boat, dump this undine into the sea and return to shore.
Pechorin later returned to the place where he had seen the smugglers, and met them there again. This time the man sailed away with the girl forever, and the blind boy was left to their own devices.
The next morning, Pechorin left Taman. He regretted that he involuntarily disturbed the peace of “honest smugglers”.
